Argument, Persuasion and Bias: Types of Arguments

The 3 Most Common Types of Argument Papers

Although there are varying ways to formulate an argumentative research paper, the two most popular are Toulmin and Claim-Counterclaim (Point/Counterpoint).  However, if your argument is meant to reach a "common ground", you may wish to use the Rogerian Argument.

Claim--Counterclaim

Rogerian

Considered the most logical for meeting in a common ground when the topic is considered "gray".

Toulmin

Considered a common and easy way to organize your argument when there are a lot of facts and statistics to support your side.
